Release time:2016-09-29

Between September 23rd and 25th, 2016, the Pujiang Innovation Forum jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and the Shanghai Municipal Government was held at the Shanghai Dongjiao State Guest Hotel.

The Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang, the UK’s Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation Jo Johnson, the Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Beijing Martyn Roper, the Director of Science and Technology Commission of the Shanghai Municipality Shou Ziqi, and other guests attendedthe forum.

Minister Wan Gang met with the UK’s Science Minister Jo Johnson for the UK China Joint Commission for Science and Technology. They discussed the UK China innovation collaboration in several key areas in the future, and established collaboration strategies and roadmap for the science and technology innovation. They also agreed on the co-construction of a group of China-Britain Joint Research Centers.

The Ministers also witnessed the signing of the agreement between CEAM, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and the Open University (OU) to build an International Stress Engineering Center (I-SEC) with the facilities in the UK at the Harwell Campusin Oxfordshire and China.

Through the implementation of the agreement, I-SEC will make full use of the technologies, researchers and experience resources in UK to build the multi-method and multi-dimensional research system of the stress measurements. This agreement will also allow the I-SEC to increase its importance in the international research centers and gaina worldwide reputation. As a professional authority for stress measurement, I-SEC will not only provide services and facilities for various manufacturing industries in stress engineering field, but also lead the progress and development of basic science and applied technology research in China.

The I-SEC construction is one of the main objectives of the framework of CEAM construction. With the active supportand coordination of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Department and Dongguan Municipal Government, the I-SEC will be founded as a national joint research center between UK and China, which could also facilitate the internationalization of CEAM.
